How to keep Flutter location tracking running in the background on Android 15

Run a Flutter location tracker that survives the Home button, a swipe from recents and a reboot on Android 15 and 16: a location-typed foreground service in its own Flutter engine, the exact permissions, and the SecurityException you get when the while-in-use rules bite. Tested with geolocator 14.0.3 and flutter_foreground_task 11.0.3.

2026-09-18 migration flutter android

Migrate a Flutter Android project to AGP 9 with built-in Kotlin

The full path from an AGP 8 Flutter app that applies kotlin-android to AGP 9.1 with android.builtInKotlin=true on Flutter 3.47. Every step was built and measured, including the two edits that look optional and are not: kotlinOptions is a compile error under KGP 2.2+, and the KGP line in settings.gradle.kts has to stay.

2026-09-16 errors flutter android

Fix: Unexpected failure parsing device information from adb output in Flutter

Flutter 3.47.0 cannot parse adb rows whose serial is 22+ characters, so wireless and some USB Android devices vanish. Upgrade to 3.47.1 or later, or adb connect by IP.

2026-09-15 errors flutter android

Fix: flutter doctor --android-licenses says 'The --licenses option is no longer needed' with cmdline-tools 23

cmdline-tools 23.0 retired sdkmanager --licenses, so Flutter before 3.47.3 reports license status unknown. Upgrade Flutter, or pin cmdline-tools 22.0.

How to enable R8 shrinking and obfuscation for a .NET MAUI Android release build

Set AndroidLinkTool to r8, keep trimming on, and add a ProguardConfiguration file. Why .NET 10 and .NET 11 RC 1 still ship un-obfuscated Java, how the new AndroidR8ObfuscationMode property changes that, and how to verify R8 actually ran.

How to intercept the Android back button on a .NET MAUI Shell root page

Override OnBackButtonPressed on the root page and run .NET MAUI 10.0.101 or later. Why root pages stopped receiving back presses from 10.0.70 (Android 16) and 10.0.100 (every Android version), why .NET 11 RC 1 is still affected, why Shell.OnNavigating and BackButtonBehavior.Command do not help, and a MainActivity workaround for the broken versions.

2026-09-11 errors flutter flutter-web

Fix: Flutter Text renders off-screen in an Android WebView when system font scaling is enabled

Flutter web 3.41 to 3.44 reports a ~625x line-height override when an Android WebView's textZoom is not 100. Upgrade to 3.47, or clear the override in MaterialApp.builder.

2026-09-10 errors flutter android

Fix: Could not create Dart VM instance in a Flutter release build after flutter upgrade

The release APK shipped without libapp.so. Flutter 3.44.0 to 3.44.4 could drop it: upgrade to 3.44.5 or later and split the combined subprojects block.

How to find the async void handlers causing ANRs in a .NET MAUI Android app

Play Console tells you your ANR rate is over 0.47% and hands you a native stack full of libcoreclr.so frames. Here is how to get from that useless trace to the exact async void event handler that blocked the main thread, using a Looper printer, a SynchronizationContext wrapper that names the state machine, and dotnet-trace over dsrouter.

Migrate a .NET MAUI Android app to target Android API level 36

Google Play required target API 36 from 2026-08-31, with extensions running to 2026-11-01. Here is the full .NET MAUI path from net9.0-android to API 36: the target framework bump, the hardcoded uses-sdk that silently pins you to the old level, edge-to-edge with no opt-out, predictive back, and the large-screen orientation rules.
