Polls for Streamlabs – interact with your viewers
Interacting with and engaging your viewers is as important as the content you create and it’s important to give your audience a voice. But how to do that in an easy way? The answer is simple, through Polls.
Now in this article we’re going to have a look at the Polls app from Streamlabs’ app store which is only available to Streamlabs Prime subscribers.
Polls for Streamlabs enables you to display polls in real-time on your stream and allows your viewers to vote by typing their answer in chat.
It features:
- multiple polls which you can prepare upfront
- multiple poll types (bar, pie, doughnut)
- viewers vote by typing their choice in chat
- ability to vote using shortcuts like: 1,2,3 or a,b,c…
- completely customizable: change every color, every label
Step 1: Getting the Polls app
If you’re a Prime subscriber already, just go to the app store and click on the Install button in the top-right corner of the page. The app will then automatically appear in your left sidebar in Streamlabs. If you’re not a subscriber already, you’ll be given the option to subscribe to Prime.
Step 2: Create a new poll
Click on the green + button on the left side and begin customizing your poll. In the first part you’ll be setting up your poll question, the possible answers and all the colors associated with each. This will affects the options in the poll chart and the colors associated with each.
You can choose from a set of predefined themes or color sets for your options or you can change both the background color and the text color of your poll options individually. Play around with them until you find the perfect combination.
Next, you get to modify it’s appearance. First, you need to choose the chart type. You get to chose between a horizontal chart, a pie chart and a doughnut chart. Don’t worry about making a final decision at this time, all these setting can be changed at any time.
Next, choose where to display a legend for your chart, where to position it, what colors, font sizes and spacing to use and also the background color of the chart and the corner radius. Make sure they all integrate nicely with the other elements of your stream.
And last but not least, there’s an advanced settings tab which allows you to control whether people can vote for the same option multiple times or if they should be prevented from doing that.
Every change you make is instantly previewed in the right pane and automatically saved in Streamlabs, so you don’t need to worry about a thing. All the settings and poll configurations are linked to your Streamlabs account so you take them with you in case you switch computers.
Step 3: Add your widget to the scene
In case you haven’t already, add the widget to at least one of your scenes. The app will display a warning at the top if you haven’t done so already, with a one-click button to add it automatically.
The widget won’t display anything until you start a poll using the ‘Start poll’ button, so it’s best to do this while you’re not yet live. Create a test poll, start it and arrange the app widget in your scenes as you like it. When done, just stop the poll from the app and the widget will go back to displaying nothing and being fully transparent.
Step 4: Go live with your poll!
Now that you’ve created your poll and configured it the way you like it, plus added the app widget to your scenes, you’re ready to go live. If you plan a longer streaming session you can even prepare multiple polls upfront and simply start and switch between them when needed.
You can even reuse polls multiple times by going to the advanced settings tab and clicking on the ‘Reset votes’ button.
Hi!
I would love to have this feature on Youtube.
Is there any forecast for a YouTube version?
